Student Parliament Leadership

During my time at sixth form, I took on a leadership role in the Student Parliament, an experience that developed my public speaking, mentoring and stakeholder engagement skills.

What I did

I chaired regular parliament meetings, ensuring discussions stayed focused and every voice was heard. I mentored prospective students, helping them navigate sixth form life and get involved in student representation.

I also pitched initiatives to large cohorts, advocating for changes that would improve the student experience. This required preparing clear proposals, responding to questions under pressure and building consensus among diverse groups of students.

Impact

The role taught me how to lead meetings effectively, communicate ideas to varied audiences and represent others' interests, all skills that translate directly to compliance work, where clear communication and stakeholder management are essential.
